Whether you are a college student looking for part-time work or a professional looking to be your own boss, tutoring can be a great career path. Before you begin, you might be wondering how stressful the job is.
As a financial professional, Catherine Sheridan also offers math tutoring sessions to students of all levels and abilities. Today she shares her tips for having a stress-free tutoring session
Like any job where you are working with others, tutoring can be stressful at times. Younger kids especially can get easily frustrated and overwhelmed. If the person you are tutoring is stressed, you can easily become stressed as well. Follow these tips for a smooth session:
- Come prepared to every session – make sure you have all the materials you need before beginning the session with a student, and set clear goals for the session
- Get to know your students – students learn better when they feel comfortable around you, and you can also teach better if you built rapport with them and get to know their learning style
- Find the right work-life balance – even though you are self-employed, it’s important to set a schedule and stick to it
